Sun, Cash and Bigamy.

It's an odd time of summer right now.

I mean, I guess it's not technically summer yet, since we haven't passed the summer solstice on or around June 21.  It sure as hell feels like summer, since it's been 91-fucking-degrees outside most days the past couple weeks, which is, of course, miserable.  Combine that with a sun that scorches my crappy pseudo-redhead skin with five minutes of contact, and being outside sucks.

Of course, the fact that Ohio has transitioned from 20-degrees-and-cloudy miserable to 90-degrees-and-sunny-or-cloudy miserable means that our stupid grass is growing.  There's nothing better about having a yard than that precise second when you've finished mowing the grass and you've got the longest possible time to the next time you have to mow.

Let's move to the interior of the Arctic!  Blue skies, cool (and cold) temperatures, short growing season, and low sun angles!

But that's not what I'm talking about.  It's a weird time of summer right now because I'm between work.  I finished my finals back a couple weeks ago, and my next couple classes don't start until June 12.  I've been keeping busy with trying (desperately) to catch up from the wasted semester, though I'm starting to think my efforts are in vain, and that I might benefit from an additional semester in residence to finish my dissertation and use the provided mentorship to put out a dozen or so articles before I hit the job market.

Then again, I'm really really sick of being in poverty.  I don't need much, but worrying about bills and every dime we spend does get a little old.  It's just unneccessary stress, you know.

The good news in all of this is that, because school starts after next week, the glory that is known as the summer financial aid refund is upon us.  On Wednesday, our account will have a massive amount of money deposited, like just about every advanced college student and grad student in America do right before a term.  Of course, this money will leave very, very quickly as we pay bills, maintain cars, and awful things like that.  Either way, it will be time for celebration as Amy will get her new laptop that I've been promising for months now.

Today is also a weird day, because it is a Saturday and I am home alone.  See, this didn't really happen while Amy worked at the hotel for a while.  While I haven't (yet) brought myself to the notion of going to work on a Saturday, I also haven't gotten myself to work at home yet (which I've found to be harder, anyway).

I'm also suffering from a possibility of some sports bigamy.  See, the Cavaliers (well, LeBron) played a damn solid game the other night.  They are a tremendous amount more attractive right now than the Pacers, whom I had cheered for since I was a little kid.  Then again, that whole brawl thing where the Pacers went out and beat up people in the audience, that was more than a little disheartening.  It was embarrassing.  I don't think I've even watched a Pacers game since that, and that was like three years ago.  I don't know what to do.  What the Pacers Brawl a big enough catalyst to excuse the abandonment of a lifetime sports rooting interest?

Meh.  Of course, most of this conversation is null and void is LeBron doesn't beat the hated Pistons either tonight or in game 7...
