This weekend has been a little strange, I think. Friday night was a trip to Canton with Kory & Amy to drop off the Volvo for service and eat at Red Robin. That was all well and good. That night included video games, puppy playtime and the downloading of MarioKart 64 to the Wii.
Saturday was strange as well. We went down and picked up the Volvo, and hit Red Robin again (this time for only fries). Red Robin has unlimited fries, but.... they tried to charge us for each basket of fries. Apparently the unlimited only applies if you have someone (anyone) in your party ordering one of their overpriced burgers.
Saturday night was a hockey game at Kent, which ended up being a little more exciting than we expected. The referees let the game get too physical, and near the end of the second period was a bench-clearing brawl. Like, five minute brawl, with players beating the living shit out of each other. To be fair, Western Michigan, a team full of goons, started the brawl by, as a group, throwing down the gloves. They also tried to go into the stands and threaten fans, not more than 10 steps from us.
It was bad enough that I'm strongly considering writing a letter to the AD and President of Western Michigan University to let them know how disgraceful their teams acted.
A bunch of players ended up bloody and ejected, and the refs called off the period for intermission early. They came back after 40 minutes (instead of the traditional 20 minute intermission) played the last few minutes of the second and started the third. By the time the players came back, about 10 from each team were kicked out. There were only like 2 bare-bones lines full of backups left when play resumed, which was kinda sad. The players that were left we incredibly exhausted because normally three lines plus specialized individual players are constantly rotating.
It was really somewhat disturbing and disgraceful, but was exciting enough that the adrenaline (from survival instincts?) that both of Amy and I had sore shoulders and weak knees.
Today was some more adventure. Amy came with me to the Quaker meeting for the first time so that she could go to the potluck with me. She was pretty uncomfortable there, and she doesn't gel with the whole silent worship thing completely, but said it was a learning experience.
The potluck was nice enough. There was a lot of strict vegetarian food there (several are vegetarians and apparently a couple are also vegans) including a very delicious stirfry apparently made with salsa. The people are nice and friendly, but again, they're just so much older. It feels like there is no one in our peer group (except for Kory and Amy) at Amy's church. There's REALLY no one in our peer group at the Kent Quaker Meeting.
We picked up some pet supplies and party food on the way back home. Tonight's the Super Bowl, in which the Colts are playing for the first time since I've been alive. It's the biggest sporting event in the United States each year. We got some (shamefully non-vegan) party food specifically for tonight for our party of... 1-and-a-half. Amy will be hitting church tonight during the first half.
Way to turn your back on your homeland! Jesus will be there next week!
Bah.
Either way, my evening will consist of eating and watching the Super Bowl. I thought of writing a running blog, but you know.... I could write a running blog of anything, and the Colts in the Super Bowl only happens once a lifetime at this point.
I'm going to sit, stuff my face stupid, and (hopefully) enjoy the ride.
