I decided that I am going to start an all-ages bar, internet access point and gathering place called Nerd's. Internet access will be completely free to anyone who brings a computer, and there will be some iMacs scattered around for communal use. I will offer a number of fine beers on tap, as well as on-tap root beer and decent fair trade coffee. I will also have vegan and vegetarian snack foods. Also scattered around will be some decent books that people can read and borrow.

All of the glasses and plates and silverware will be of different sets, purchased only from yard sales, surplus sales, outlets and auctions.

In the back will be the jukebox, which will have music I deem decent. It will be some sort of monstrosity that is ghetto-rigged from an old computer, using a program that I write and maybe a touch screen. And it will also include a request form so that, within a week or so, I will acquire songs to people's requests.... if I deem them decent enough.

I will also buy a bunch of junk computers from junk auctions at various colleges and disassemble them. I will use the parts (cards and whatnot) for decor, sticking them to the wall and whatever. Artists can put their art on the wall, as well, and people can graffiti above a certain line. Nothing like regulating anarchy.

There will be comfy chairs and couches and even comfy stools everywhere.

I will buy one old floormodel television, assemble a real aquarium inside of the casing, and have fish there. This will be located behind the bar.

Over in one corner, I'll have a pile of old televisions hooked up to a splitter. Some of these will have intentionally bad or discolored pictures. They will be all hooked up to one tuner, so that the channel will be the same on all 20 of them. Some of them may even be sitting upside down or sideways. The volume, mercifully, will be muted.

In one corner, I will have a small stage for various local music and stupid hippy poetry. In fact, I may have the stupid hippy poets in once in a while simply to make fun of them and kick them out. However, math rock, nerd rock, shoegaze and other such genres will be encouraged.

And I'll operate this for basically nothing because I'll be teaching on the campus and I'll already own the building outright.

Sounds good, right?

This is what I thought of while drove to work today... time I've normally dedicated to working out my dissertation. I haven't thought a thing about my dissertation (besides the fact that I need to start thinking about it) in weeks.

I should get on that, or Nerd's will never happen.
