In trying to write these past couple of days, I've come across a few couple of barriers. First, and perhaps foremost, I haven't had much to say. The past few days have been generally useful in terms of getting things done, but otherwise uneventful.
Secondly, my laptop has been out of commission because of a recurring problem with the power adapter. Since I bought my first iBook in July of 2003, I have now been through a total of six power adapters. Despite Apple's penchant for attractive and functional design, they certainly missed the boat on this one. I mean, the reviews on Apple's own store for selling these read like a support group. And they've even begun to offer a third party adapter because of low ratings and constant backorder status. I ended up ordering a different third party one on eBay, and it hasn't arrived yet. Therefore, dead laptop.
Shame on you, Apple.
We did manage to take an overnight to Indiana to return the Impala, buy some computer accessories. Of course, we had already ordered the adapter, so we concentrated on a new hard drive and some memory for the iBook. Worked like a charm until the battery died.
Living without my laptop is obscenely annoying. I miss having my computer (and all of my work and all of my anything else) at my fingertips 24/7. I hope the adapter comes today.
Anyway, back to Indiana. We had some dinner with both sets of parents. We also played some Wii with both sets of parents, and both sets were incredibly impressed. Dad kept asking how much it cost and where he could get one, so I figure he'll have one soon. And my mom, for the first time of all time, played a video game after spending the 1980s and 1990s as an outspoken opponent (you know, "they rot brains" and whatnot). And she enjoyed it enough that she played more than one game.
Monday, we honored Martin Luther King by spending most of our financial aid. Paying off the Impala and turning it in was something like three grand, while getting body work done to enable turning it in was another $1300. Leasing is nothing more than an expensive mistake. Having anything to do with a General Motors car is also an expensive mistake. Put them together and you will continue to feel your asshole throb weeks after being raped in the ass so severely (without lubrication, I might add). But it's gone. We also paid some bills and a loan from my parents, and bought the aforementioned iBook stuff.
Since we returned, it took a couple of days to recover from the hectic schedule of the trip. In that time, I would argue that we've done very little productive.
Adding to our lack of productivity were several things: the Wii swallows a good bit of our time. Also, the fact that Maggie's puppies are growing and crapping a lot more, as well as needing real food, swallows even more. Then, there's this pesky thing called work, which is swallowing more.
My classes seem to be okay. I'm in two sociology classes this semester, one about gender and one about aging. I am one of two males in gender, which is generally expected. Jen, another geography student, is also in aging. I need the two cognate classes for my degree, and now is the time.
Oh, and super-"ugh" about aging class. Some girl who was giving me the eye Wednesday in that class (and who I had written off as a product of an inappropriately large opinion of myself, which actually isn't that large but is still inappropriately large) sat next to me today and wore way too much cleavage. Like, shocking amounts, and she kept bending over. The first time was a happy show and a tiding of good luck (married, not dead, remember). After that, it was just uncomfortable. She best be backing off and recognizing, fool.
Then again, it could all be in my head and totally incidental.
The other news is our this-week-infatuation with the only vegetarian option at Steak N Shake. See, we went there at the request of my parents and ordered the only vegetarian (but definitely not vegan) thing that sounded decent: a grilled cheese, broccoli cream soup and a side of thousand island dressing. That meal, and that taste has grown on us exponentially and we've gone back like twice this week. And we're going back again this afternoon! Even after our pretty dirty waitress put her thumb (with black stuff on it!) in our soups as she served them.
We can't win.
Exciting news for the weekend: Colts are playing to go to the Super Bowl. Unfortunately, they are playing the Patriots which means the Colts will not be going to the Super Bowl. I will still watch, and I will probably do a fat-man's dance if they win.
And I will wear my poor old Peyton Manning jersey for like two weeks.
However, they will lose, so all of this is in vain.
Blah!
