What the Bills vs. Ravens Game Taught Me...

I'm not actively watching the Bills vs. Ravens game, even though a loss by the Ravens would help the Colts. I ventured on to CBS because, as Amy was leaving for this evening's church service, I noticed that two of the games currently being played were owned by CBS, one of which was the Colts game.

A Perpetual Game of Telephone

An odd thought from this evening. We were sitting at Kory and Amy's house talking about the strange and unseasonable weather we've been enjoying that turns our yards into mud pits. I mentioned some things that I had heard about Lake Erie's freezing (or lack thereof last year and this year) and algae (or whatever) cycles that I had heard from various climatology friends and how these were out of whack. Amy, the one who's not my wife, disputed what I had heard because she had lived "500 feet" from Lake Erie for quite some time and had not observed what I had been talking about to be an anomaly.

It's All About Execution.

Just read on the news that Iraq's "government" is planning to execute Saddam Hussein tonight. It seems odd to me on several extents. For one, the guy is still on trial for other crimes -- his execution is punishment for killing like 140-some Kurds when he's still on trail for gassing more than 20,000. Second, the rush to execution comes only a matter of a couple of months after being found guilty (which conveniently happened right before the election, if I'm not mistaken).

"...To the Day When We Live in a Video...

I'll be stonefaced and pale, you'll pout in stereo 24 hours every day of the year, oh what fun, I can't wait until the future gets here...."

Alternate States of Being, Realities and Holidays

A trip home to Indiana is always an adventure, and this year's pseudo-Christmas excursion was no exception. It's always weird to go home in general, but it's even weirder to celebrate a holiday nearly a week before it actually happens.

Our Christmas Letter

Be sure to see a second lengthy blog that I published today, containing details of our trip home and other random shit.

Ends.

I'm officially completely finished with the semester. I just put on the final grades for my U.S. and Canada class, which is the absolute last thing that had to happen for me to be finished. All of my students did pretty well. So did Amy and I on our final grades.

Gorilla Ass Rape

If you ever want to feel sick to your stomach, try actually using your multiple levels of insurance for the advertised purpose. We've spent more than two weeks now trying to get Amy's stolen laptop claimed to renter's insurance as our personal property. At one point, we were told that we would get the original purchase price (nearly $3,000) minus a $500 deductable. Then, it turned into an assessed value calculated by a depreciation from the purchase price of 3-5% per year minus the deductable (or somewhere between $1600 and $1800 all-said-and-done).

The Saga Continues.

First of all, a requested note: apparently Kory and Amy didn't suggest "Desperate Housewives" either? I don't know. It's all hearsay, which, incidentally enough, is not admissable.

Out more.

So right now is kinda a crappy time, I guess. Yes, we've still only got $3.42 in our bank account (though Amy's parents are supposed to deposit a small loan today), but that's not what's bothering me. Sure, I've got the biggest project of the bunch still on the table to finish for this week, but that's all that's left and I'm really not that stressed about it.

Let it Snow?

So, I guess my bitching about the lack of snow thus far was finally heard. We're going to get our fair share tomorrow:

All I Have to Do...

We got our heater fixed shortly after my last post, by the way. We've been warm for a while now. This morning, Jesus Christ himself (I guess... either him or a band of lake-effect snow) treated us to our first (finally) snow of the year, an inch or so. Snow is one of the strangest fucking things on the entire damn planet. I wonder if, before the wonders of television, if people in sub-tropical or tropical zones heard of snow and instantly laughed at the inanity of the idea. I mean, we get tiny ice crystals that fall from the sky, blow around, and accumulate on the ground.

Cold

That week went mercifully quickly. Then again, I didn't have to work today, so that makes the week incredibly short.
