The Good and the Terrifying

It's really been a great weekend, as far as I can tell. Saturday was pretty fucking awesome, because after I picked up Amy from work, we went out to Fairlawn to cash in her birthday coupon at the Coldstone Creamery for their vegan sorbet. Then, we got some supplemental groceries (evil Wal-Mart didn't carry everything we needed...) and drove up to Kent. At Kent, it was Saturday night hockey, which meant our weekly visit to Main Street Coneys for Veggie Chili on not-dogs and their delicious fries. Then, the hockey game, which Kent won in a nail-biting fashion over number-one-in-the-friggin'-country Illinois, handing them their first loss of the year.
Today? Laziness, a nice walk to Brittain Road and back with Rikki, and a couple movies at home. Pretty good weekend.

Tomorrow, though, is a pretty scary day. My mom goes in for her cancer surgery. She's having a double mastectomy, which while pretty routine is also pretty fucking scary. I hate the notion of surgery and people I care about going through it. Anytime you go under, there's a chance you don't come back. That's scary shit.

Her surgery begins at 7:00, and should only take about four hours. It's supposed to be really routine, and just about everyone who has breast cancer and survived has it done, and from what I've read, the surgery survival rate is well over 99%. I know I shouldn't be scared, since apparently it's no more dangerous than the stupid little surgery I had a couple years ago, but it's still terrifying.

It's my mom, you know?

So, I'll break out that rarely used ability of mine tonight, and pray for her. And hopefully, I'll be able to get some sleep, and tomorrow by the time I wake up, she'll be almost done and maybe in recovery.

God knows I'll be calling dad like a fiend.
