I Sold My Own Soul for Cash

Hockey was entertaining tonight, even though Kent State was soundly defeated. They were playing the number one ranked team in the club hockey league (Illinois) and they were beaten 5-1. Kent's one goal came with 41 seconds left in the third, so it wasn't close at all.
Of course, a bad thing happened. In all of our entertainment, Amy and I both forgot that we had to work tomorrow. We got out of the game around 10:30pm, and then went to pick up her check at the hotel. After depositing it, we decided it would be a good idea to get some groceries, again, forgetting that we had to work tomorrow.

We did the unthinkable: we went to the new Wal-Mart Supercenter in Brimfield. Before this one, there were no Wal-Mart Supercenters in the area. This one opened this past week. Unfortunately, until about February we're going to be so exceptionally broke that it's not even funny. Since Wal-Mart sells groceries at (basically) cost, we caved.

I sold my own soul for cash.

Throughout our shopping experience, I felt exceptionally guilty for shopping there. I hated it. Beyond that, since it was late at night, there were pallets taking up all of the aisles, so simply shopping was an incredible chore. By the time we arrived in the front to check out, they had closed all of the lanes in the store except for two express lanes. We (and everyone else) had way more than 20 items, and the cash registers were not equipped to handle these loads. We waited, and waited and waited. Basically everything about the trip reminded me why I hate hate hate hate hate shopping at Wal-Mart.

We got a good sized cartload of groceries, fully vegan. We couldn't buy tofutti sour cream, bread/buns, or salsa there, but everything else was vegan. And we only spent $89 for a pile of stuff that's going to last us a week or so. And then I remembered why sometimes, I have to shop at Wal-Mart if I can.

And we left the store in a pool of self-loathing and disgust. And I'm still feeling guilty. But this week, we'll eat.
