I put together a poster today for Geography Awareness Day, which is tomorrow. I think around four people will show up. But that's okay, because my poster rules pretty hard. I don't know if there will be a poster competition, but I really hope so. I think my poster would kick everyone's ass.
Okay, I'm really not that competitive whatsoever, but I like my stupid poster, which I put together in about an hour. Mandy, the faculty coordinating this (and the one who has access to a plotter) printed it today, and it's huge. I had no idea how large a 36"x54" poster really was.
Anyway, here's the poster. I couldn't figure out how to make the file large enough that the body text showed legibly, but small enough to actually figure out what the fuck is going on with a 36"x54" poster on a small computer screen. You can click on it to see it a little larger.
The gist of it is this: Mike Pence takes a global concept (the "War on Terror") and manipulates the scale of this concept using discourse to create a threat relevant to Indiana's sixth district. Because he can do this effectively, his pro-war candidacy is repeatedly successful and he is then allowed to project power globally because he's a member of the U.S. House of Representatives. Unfortunately, on top of all of this, Mike Pence is an unbelieveable asshole.
In all of this, one thing is certain. The original version of "In My Life" (by The Beatles) sounds so trivial after hearing the Johnny Cash cover from American IV.
