No Accountability

A couple thoughts about some current events:
I really care very little whether Iran or North Korea has nuclear weapons. Yes, the leadership in each of those two countries is what I would consider to be insane. No, I don't like nuclear weapons in general. However, the United States should not be upset about this. Why? These countries would not have worked to acquire this technology had they not felt threatened by other countries with nukes. And they feel threatened by none other than the United States. It's such neocolonial bullshit that we, the "freedom loving" Americans, can have tens of thousands of nuclear weapons, but no other country, certainly not ones with theocratic government or a populace of generally darker skin, is allowed.

I worry little about this situation because I know we won't be attacked first. I worry some about the situation because I know Bush is stupid enough to attack first, and when you attack a crazy person, all bets are off.

As for the little situation in the House of Representatives, I have a couple of thoughts. For one, I'm glad the guy who was trying to commit statutory rape on pages is gone. I find it plenty ironic that he is a Republican, the party that forces "Christian" "family values" down the throat of the rest of the country. I haven't yet read the passage of the bible that promoted homosexual child molesting. I honestly don't care that it was same-sex, but I find it to be a good irony for his party.

On top of that, I think anyone who knew anything and tried to cover it up should be kicked out of Congress, out of the party and into jail. Come on, we're talking about a child molester! Would you protect a child molester to protect your party's advantage? Is there any reason you'd protect a child molester? Fox News is spinning this as a big Democrat conspiracy, that it's only released because of the election. Um, if it's true, it's still disgusting and still deserves recognition. The other spin has been to compare it to Clinton's problems. Again, Clinton was fucking someone who was off age. Yes, it was adultery which is immoral, but it wasn't dozens of teenage pages.

If the Congress and the GOP want to save face, they'll clean house. But they won't. And the American public will stand idly by because this country is a failed republic. The simple size and consumerism-based apathy of the electorate have created a state where there is no accountability.
