Bittersweet Dodged Bullets

This weekend has been a pretty decent weekend. We've been doing a lot of things outside the house even though I've been pretty sick with an awful cold. We hit a football game, a couple of hockey games, and may have a hike tomorrow. You can see pictures of our adventures the past couple weekends on theshears.com.
In terms of Tim, so far it seems as though most of the major bullets have been dodged. He regained consciousness, was taken off the ventilator, came out of ICU and has recovered enough to be released since my last post. The final tally: four broken ribs, a broken collar bone, broken nose, broken face bones, and four breaks in his foot, plus two black eyes.

According to my dad, the truck looked like Tim should be dead. That little $900 S-10 doesn't owe anyone anything.

And, strangely enough, he was released to go home today. For the first few days he was in the hospital, he was under police hold which meant he had to be released to the police. The hold was cancelled yesterday, and he was released today. He may still get charged with some shit, and honestly he should. Last I'd heard, he was wasted while he was driving, he had no insurance and they've still (apparently) got the evidence to prove all of it. But so far, legally at least, he's in the clear.

It's bittersweet because the bastard needs the entirety of the wake-up-call. At the same time, I'm incredibly glad that he's avoiding jail time thus far because the prison system does nothing but make the criminals there devolve. My parents think he's scared straight.

That said, we're hoping to hit Indiana this coming weekend. We're probably looking at a day in Muncie and a day in Westfield. I wish our parents (and families) would come see us, since either set is in better financial and logistical shape to make it happen. Plus, there's been only one visit from either set (Amy's parents this past April) since last September. It's pretty sad, really.

I'm honestly starting to get burned out on school, I think. I need a vacation. A real vacation. I haven't had one of those for a while, but I need one. I need to not think about school for a little bit. It only took me eight years of post high school education to get a little tired of it.

The past two weeks were pretty rough because I had a few annoying projects to wrap up. I think I'll have a little more freedom this week to get some more recreational type activities working, like the papers I want to publish and my dissertation. Working on that shit will be better for me mentally.

I guess taking 12 hours wasn't the best idea for the semester. I just want to get through safely, and I'll be happy...
