Ugh.
We came back to Akron on Thursday night. Late. Amy had to work early on Friday, and I, against all common sense, drove her to work. I needed the Volvo to run parts for Pedro, who got his once-a-semester refreshing of filters, oil and so forth. Virgil's presence was necessary in the case I took Pedro apart and forgot to buy a part I needed. Amy and I paid for our lack of sleep all day, because both of us felt like shit.
My shittiness continues today. I am up early again, not because I drove Amy to work, but partially because I couldn't sleep once she left at 6:30. The questionable diet that we practice in Indiana while in the presence of various parents has left my stomach angry and our toilet seat constantly occupied. I want to eat healthier. I think I'll feel better.Today is a semester-starting field trip and orientation for the department. I don't need to be oriented, but I (along with all returning grad students) was asked to attend to help socialize with the new people. We're touring Northeastern Ohio. It's also an opportunity to pick up new sights to show Amy on boring days off, which actually excites me. Being social with new people, regardless of the fact that they're geographers and therefore probably pretty cool, doesn't excite me at all.I wish I could puke so the misery could be over. I'm not quite desperate enough to practice bulemia for a day. Not yet.
I'm excited to start the new semester. I need a routine, and semesters certainly offer that. This semester, I'm hoping to do many things. I have four classes, which is probably one too many, but they're all classes I'm excited to take. I also have two articles to get out, and a dissertation proposal to write. My dissertation topic has come together in my head over the past couple months, but I have to get it down, and frame it with literature. It sounds easier than it will be, but it's a challenge that has me excited to get started. On top of these items, we're starting a geography 'zine in Grad Group, of which I've been elected president. Since I came up with the 'zine idea, I intend to head it up, of course with Mary's help. She's definitely my most trusted colleague. I hope she gets a PhD so that we can collaborate in the future on real projects.
It's time to fire up the bug and jet... or whatever the equivalent of "jet" would be in a bug.
Crawl?
