Freshly Mowed Grass

Mmm... sitting outside, marveling at a job well-done. I'm blogging by citronella candlelight on my back patio, admiring the perfectly clean look of my freshly cut lawn. My lawn is now shorter and cleaner-looking than the old Italian neighbor's. No doubt he will mow tomorrow so that he can best mine.
He's more than a little insane. Well, maybe not... he is indeed an insane keeper of lawn, but the rest I make up in my head for my own amusement.

Let's see. Amy got a different job. The Comfort Inn in Fairlawn managed to be sane for about a shift, then went crazy. They were like, psychotic, wanting her to stand (all front desk people were banned from sitting) in heels for eight hours a day. So, she completed a pseudo-transfer, taking a job at the Quality Inn in Kent doing the same thing with far less-crazy people. Kory works there, and he hooked her up. It's closer to the house for the same pay, and we get the same hotel discounts in the Comfort/Quality family. She's pretty happy so far with the new arrangement, and that's what's important.

I'm still considering abandoning the MySpace thing. I'm not planning to completely do away with my profile, but I'm seriously considering quitting my blog here. If I do, I'll be moving it to my website. I may do it slowly, starting with only cross-posting each entry before I pull up the roots. I'm really starting to think that the myspace thing has run its course, at least among people I keep in contact with. Time will tell.

Oh, and Amy convinced me to watch the first season of The Sopranos with her, and wow. That show is the most addictive show I've ever seen. It's like a detailed but believable soap opera with obligatory boobs shown each episode (Tony owns a strip club called the Bada Bing), random acts of violence, and cuss words. I was honestly really skeptical since the show had gotten so much buzz because remember, so does American Idol. In two days' time, we've nearly knocked out the entire first season.

I know now what the phrase "off limits in more ways than Meadow Soprano" means, too. That insight to popular culture is an added bonus.

Jon is coming up tomorrow for Tom Waits. I'm really looking forward to hanging out and seeing the show. He's actually high-tailing it up to Cleveland after the show to hit a bonus Tom Waits show at the House of Blues that's starting around midnight after the Akron show. Both Mr. Waits and Mr. May are insane for attempting to pull this off.

There's only one week left of my gig at Tuscarawas. Mr. Ped is starting to worry me with his sluggish running, but I've got a few ideas as to how to fix it, given the money.

"Given the money" will be the phrase of the semester. With Amy going back to school and scaling back on work and with most of the financial aid going to get rid of the Impala, it's going to be a little scary, and that's been a source of stress in my head this week. Money is stupid, and it's too stupid to worry about, but I still do.

We're going to take a trek to Indiana to see my family next weekend. It'll be a good time out before the beginning of the semester. My mom, who's still doing super-well with the whole cancer bit, has been itching to see us. She tells me every time I'm on the phone with her that she'll send money for gas, if we'll just come over. I think it's probably a fair thing to do, plus I know they want to show off their new house.

I have to admit...

I do miss them, too.
