Dicks

I may receive excellent financial news in the next few days. I won't disclose anything about it until I hear more, because otherwise I will get my hopes up. That's always been a problem with me, in regards to music, girls, sports, etc. I always get my hopes up and have them crashed. Makes the roller coaster ride that much more fun. Or it makes me emo.

If this ship comes in, we're going to have a good anniversary, and a good summer.

I'm becoming convinced that I'm an old-school Romantic. I look at things and see glory-filled pasts, unrealized potential and I yearn for the better. It gets depressing because everyone in this world is out for their own short-term profit. No one actually invests in community or humanity unless a tax break is the incentive. Or personal legacy. If I ever become tremendously wealthy, unlikely in my chosen profession, I will hopefully invest in things to have fun and improve the lives of others.

I always had a dream that, if I won the super-duper jackpot, I would start cool businesses that lost money and just eat the losses. I'd own a drive-in movie theater. I'd own a go-kart track, skee-ball arcade with crappy prizes, batting cages combo thing. I'd own the coolest record store ever that had everything you'd ever want but didn't worry about huge inventory because profit wasn't a concern. I'd start an orchestra. I'd own a killer music venue for my orchestra and for all the local kids to play shows.

Etc.

But I do not get money. Professionally uncool people do. That's how they get money, by being dicks. It's nearly impossible to make money without being a dick. If you are fair, your competition will squash you by undercutting your fairness with dickhood. The lottery will always be a slavery of the poor and decent.

Capitalism rules.
