A couple of things to mention...
One, I seem to have misplaced my flashdrive, which sucks pretty badly. I've become exceptionally reliable on it for transporting data and such since I can't hook my laptop upto the non-existent wireless in McGilvrey. I really need to find it. If you come across it, let me know. Then again, who could come across it that reads this? Luckily, all my essential data is stored on my laptop and I've only used my flashdrive for transport for printing and whatnot.
I don't think I've used the word "whatnot" in quite a few years. It's pretty stupid sounding.
I've got a paper on sea ice due for polar regions class tomorrow. I've yet to start this thing, though it's only supposed to be 5-8 pages reviewing journal literature. No sweat. Interesting thing is, it represents an odd symmetry to my academic career. The first major project I ever remember doing (in the fourth grade) was on polar bears. and that happens to be the main topic for this paper some 15 years later, one of my last dozen or so school projects. Funny how that works. If I could just find my lit review from my old project....
Amy, Charley and I went for a hike on Monday to Gorge Metro Park, one of the coolest city parks this side of Garden of the Gods in Colorado Springs, CO. In Indiana, this park would be a state park, at least. We took the 1.8 mile Gorge trail, which was a bit challenging for people as out-of-shape as we are, but was quite rewarding. If you remember My first blog from Monday, I wasn't in the greatest mood. This hike made me feel soooooooo much better, and it was Amy's idea. Some of the rock formations are outstanding, and they made us say... "Wow, this is a two-minute drive from our house?" I've always liked hiking, since it's exercise with environmental stimulation, and you're close to (and crawling all over) the nature (or "nature" in the case of parks) that you're viewing. The more I look, the more hiking trails I find in the area. I hope that on nice days during free time, we decide to tackle more. It's a hell of a lot better (and more inviting) in terms of exercise than a stationary bike or running or anything like that. Tomorrow's supposed to be a beautiful day, though Amy's going to be at work for a while. She'll probably be too tired.
We watched The Motorcycle Diaries the other day. They made me happy.
If you're a sports person, Chuck Klosterman's written an excellent piece on Barry Bonds and why sports fans are disenchanted by his chase of the career home runs record. The man can think, and the man can write! If only I could do that... Oh, and Cincinnati's newest pitcher, Bronson Arroyo, that junk-throwing, light-hitting little weinie they traded Wily Mo for in the offseason, has won his first two games with a 1.78 ERA and has jacked his first two career home runs. If only it could continue...
