Contest!

One of the next five people to view this blog will be number 5000, but I'm not going to tell you which one. Leave a comment and try to stake your claim to fame. Once I get five comments, I'll announce the winner. Winner gets... well, I don't know yet, but you'll get something even though it may not be worth the time of posting a comment. I think you'll deal with it.

The Problem With Mini Blinds

Our vegan friends cancelled their dinner date with us tonight. So sad, but relieving in a way. I didn't feel like rushing to clean and cook, and neither did Amy, so it made the evening much more relaxing. Beyond that, the idea of people coming over and being social makes me a nervous wreck. I usually take this out on the house and become absolutely OCD about it's cleanliness. I've even been known to start cleaning in the middle of a conversation when company is over.

Just breathe.

I've got 11 days until one massive paper (20 pages or so) is due. I've got 14 until another massive paper (30 pages or so) is due. Between the two of them, I've written about 300 words.

To Admire the Wall of Sound's Creator...

Phil Spector is a penis, I'm pretty sure. He ruined the Beatles' Let It Be album with the "Wall of Sound" which has made him famous. Let It Be... Naked, the album without Spector's shit, is a far superior album, and he should have left well enough alone.

There's No News Like Bittersweet News

Today was quite odd. Amy and I, increasingly sicked with the greed of daily American life, have strived lately to move ourselves into a position of less desire of and dependence upon material things.

Whole Lotta "Meh"

There are things on my mind that I can't articulate. They have both tremendous relevance and none whatsoever. Call them additional musings of an overstimulated and overcynical mind who just loves to question culture and society. It's nothing personal, mind you.

What if I Don't Want to Help George W. Bush Beat Up Mike Tyson So That I Can Get a Free RAZR?

I hate internet ads. They hog bandwidth, they're obnoxious, sometimes they come up over the content, they're noisy, etc. Yet, they are the thing that single-handedly keeps the internet going. The internet is one of the last places where any dumb-fuck can post things and people will actually read it.

It's Better

Today has been much better.  Apparently, I did exactly what I needed to do to calm myself down and get everything in gear.  I've gotten more work accomplished in today's short amount of free time than I did for the week before.

Trying to extract my mind from rational thought and hard work

I'm willing to try anything to relax my mind. Here's a really terrible survey I received via bulletin. My crappy wanna-be-funny comments are in brackets.

A Strange Time

I'm having an odd time about things lately. It's difficult to talk about, not because it's painful or emotional or anything, but it's really just hard to figure out how to explain it.

Bored (Playlist)

See, I could be researching right now. However, it's a fucking Saturday morning, so I'm sitting on my ass watching Marx Brother movies and messing around on myspace. See, I probably would be doing something (just about anything) else, but Amy's at work, and I don't want to do anything the least bit exciting without her.

Decent Day

Let's see... changed Pedro's oil early this morning since he was starting to run like shit, and that went off without a hitch.  Went to work, did some good work, taught class and that went fairly okay.  Then, came home and didn't do much until Amy came home, which was alright.  Ate a quick meal at Swenson's, then went to the Aeros game.  It's a pretty nice little ballpark.  They're AA, so it's not huge... I mean, Victory Field is pretty close to perfect in every regard, but this is right up there.

Final Version, Seeds of Change Article

Today, I revised my article for Seeds of Change, a local activist magazine. I had submitted a longer version (around 5,000 words) that they apparently liked but wanted shortened. They mentioned that they were considering it for the cover and that they wanted 3,000 words. I gave them 2,999 and the design editor wrote back and thanked me like 100 times, but didn't mention whether or not it's going to be the cover. I think this version is more efficient, but I think it lost a little of the readability. Whatever.

Hrm...

I had a really odd dream last night that's been playing through my mind all day.  It's unusual for me to really remember a dream, let alone have it play through my mind for any length of time.  It's so non-sensical that it can't mean much of anything important... but it was so vivid.  It included me doing a lot of things out of character, so I'm not going to talk about it.

Another Sleepless Night

It's always when I know I have to get up at a certain time that my sleep suffers the most. It's one of life's cruelest ironies.

What Now?

Riding around Akron with someone else driving provides time for some interesting societal observation. Akron is an interesting city with an interesting history, part of which can be observed from the surrounding landscape. It was a small place of 30,000 or so until the 1920s, when the rubber moved in. At its heyday, the city hosted maybe 400,000. Today, the population is around 280,000. Demographically, that's quite an arch for such a short time period.
