Oddly Profound Thought

I had a thought today on the way home that was [probably a little too] profound.  See, today I'd been working on turning my thesis into a publishable paper.  I've actually come really far on that, and all I have to do in order to send it to Dr. Schwartz, my co-author, is dump in some graphics.  Then, he'll comment and work on it, and I can revise, get some other editorial comments from others and start submitting it to journals.

Anyway, this was my thought: this article, for better or for worse, is going to be my Player Piano.   I won't lie: I really wish I was as cool as Kurt Vonnegut.  That was his first book, and it was the one that began to catch him some notice.  While this isn't a book, publication in a peer-reviewed journal is the main outlet for my type of career, the same way that books apply to fiction writers.

While I don't feel this is necessarily my best work (despite the fact that a presentation based on this research won the Kasperson Award...), it's still my first real step out into the wider academic world.  And maybe, just maybe, someone will notice this little article and think I'm the shit, the same way I think Vonnegut is the shit.

I was right.  That was a little too much forced profundity to be worth the pixels used to display it.
