Pedro, Pedro, Pedro... (sigh)

Apparently, my ownership of an automobile could only lead to an untimely demise! After working on Pedro for like a week to get the starter solenoid fixed and working (and he STARTED)... the generator light came on, alerting me that there was a problem with the electrical system. Took him to Advance Auto to get it checked and... yep, the alternator's out.

Damn it.

So, we figured out how much it was going to be to get a new one and borrowed the money. I HATE BORROWING MONEY FROM OUR PARENTS, AND I THINK THAT OUR PARENTS HATE IT ALSO WHEN WE BORROW MONEY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! UGHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!! But, we took one in the gut and called the parents for help. Between the four of them, they loaned us enough to get the part, but not to pay the core charge. This means that I have to pull the old alternator out, and take it in when I order it so that I can avoid paying the core charge. Core charges are the biggest pile of shit ever, because they get your part that way to rebuild, or you pay dearly.

I've spent this evening leaned over Pedro's butt, trying to pull out the alternator. I've been leafing through my trusty copy of the "Step by Step Guide for Keeping Your Volkswagen Alive for the Compleat (sic) Idiot" and have realized that my model appears to be a good bit different than the ones described. In other words, I think I'm over my head this time. I hopped on to the Akron Public Library Website and found out that out in Goodyear Heights, there's a Chilton Manual available for this bug. I'm planning to head out in the morning to join the library, check it out, and to finish pulling the damn thing so that I can order the new part. Hopefully, I can have it back in by the time I have to go to work on the 23rd. Hopefully. Advance is pretty good about getting the parts that I order within a day or so.

I've changed alternators on my old Shadow, a Jeep and the Olds, and NONE of them were this complicated. Urg!

Besides being desparately poor and stuff, things are still going well for the most part. Amy is at work tonight. Her job seems to be going okay except for the fact that she only has eleven hours next week. Even the other people that work there are not sure why she's has so few. She's planning to investigate this evening.

She's been going to some church that she says there are many young people at. I went once, and there were too many strangers so I freaked out. She just continues to go to her church, no matter what. I can see this religious divide causing us some problems for quite some time. There are just to many things about her church that I just cannot tolerate. Don't get me wrong, the people are nice, but religiously it DOES NOT WORK FOR ME. If only I could find a Quaker church that gave bread and wine communion and baptized.... I think we'd find something that had enough common ground. Otherwise, I don't know if we'll ever get close to going to the same place, which means no children. I suppose that would put a monkey-wrench in her plan to be a stay-at-home mom, which I think is a little ridiculous anyway.

Some day, Pedro will work, we'll go to church together by choice, and she'll have a decent paying dependable job.

Some day.
