Football and PhD Applications

Yesterday, I finished the semester.
Today, I finally let myself feel like it's almost time for Christmas. I've always had a rule that I waited until the end of my finals.

We went to my church today, which helped me feel like it's time for Christmas. We had some Steak and Shake for lunch, and then planned what we were going to do for the next week. Then, we went to my parents' (and asked for a loan while we were there, to be denied), and came home and basically just relaxed. It was nice.

I had cleaned the apartment for Amy last night while she was at work. It had gotten pretty nasty, as busy as we both are. But, I took care of it. She was quite happy about that.

We figured out a lot at Steak and Shake. Tomorrow (Monday) we'll be heading to Indy to take a night out. We're going to go downtown to the Ram Brewery for some of their heavenly cheeseburgers, good beer, and amazing dessert. After that, we're going to hit downtown and do some quasi-Christmas shopping. We'll be shopping and thinking of ideas, but we can't afford shit from downthere. But, it's nice to walk around Indy during the Christmas season with the Circle lit up, etc. Of course, last year at this time, I basically lived down there with her. We were living off the fat of her settlement, and living fat indeed.

In spite of the cosmopolitan living that we no longer have, I prefer it this way, with her here with me.

Tuesday, she has to work, but that night we're going to go out to Me's Zoo for the lights and the animals. I've been promising her a trip to the zoo since last Christmas when we went, but we've never had the money and the time. Maybe this summer before we ditch town, we'll get together with Jon and Kris and Jordyn and Baby Two (if there, I don't know the time table for that whole deal) and go to the zoo. That sounds like a good activity for all of us.

Friday, on Christmas Eve, we're going to go down to her family nice and early and hang out with them all day, and her extended family that night. We're going to go to her extended family because we went to Thanksgiving at mine. Then, we're going to my church for Christmas Eve service, and we'll stay that night at my parents and spend Christmas with them. That seems to make everyone happy for this year... next year will be more of a hastle.

So tomorrow... going to get a Quik-E-Loan from a check joint so we can pull everything off. Won't be bad, because my aid and my paychecks will continue to roll in.

Worked today a little on my PhD applications. I'm planning to mail those Wednesday, so that they'll get there before the first of the year and so that they'll get my latest grades. I'm still expecting all As, but we'll see.

Aha! The latest APGS (Andy's PhD in Geography Standings, a la BCS):

1. Kansas (0.989)
2. Kent State (0.941)
3. Kentucky (0.904)

And.... a new return candidate somehow re-entered my consideration:
4. Wisconsin (0.882)

Wisconsin, it's almost like the overzealous high school kid that applies for Harvard. I almost want to apply just so I know I'm not good enough for them, but it's like a 1000-1 show that's worth the ten dollar bet, because that win would be sweet. We'll see if I even try to do it. I doubt I will. I applied for NYU film school my senior year, sent a reel and got in. But, I didn't go. It's been a weird piece of knowledge to have through my life.

I don't consider the University of Wisconsin's geography program in the same category as NYU film, but it is the Cadillac. I don't know, we'll see.

Colt's game is on, and it's time to wake Amy up from her nap. Either of those is more entertaining that blogging.
